The actress will play Janis Joplin in a biopic of the ‘60s singer,Access Hollywood has confirmed.A biopic for Janis, who scored such hits as “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Piece of My Heart,” before her career was cut short by a drug overdose at age 27, has long been in the works.
One project, “The Gospel According To Janis,” with Zooey Deschanel attached to star, was in development in the mid-2000s, while a different film, to star Lili Taylor and executive produced by Jonathan Demme, was floated a few years prior. Singer Pink also formerly circled a Janis project, according to Deadline.

The new film will be produced by “The Twilight Saga” producer Wyck Godfrey. Deadline reported that the project has yet to find a studio.
Amy will hit the screen next in “The Fighter,” due in December, alongside Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg.
